Record yourself
Capture your guitar directly from a USB-connected amplifier or audio interface. Listen back to the timing, tone, and details that are hard to notice while you’re playing.
Play a few notes; aim for green, not red.
Connect an audio input to get started.

Setup, monitoring & saving tips
Connect your amp or interface by USB and choose it as the audio input. Allow microphone access when asked; that permission covers USB inputs too. If the device is missing, check your computer’s sound settings. Controls are temporarily locked while an input is connecting, switching, or disconnecting.
Count-in clicks are never mixed into the take. Use headphones or your amp’s direct monitoring; speakers or an interface’s loopback can feed the click into your input even when saving guitar only. Bluetooth output can delay the cue. In /8 meters each pulse is an eighth note. Tempo is measured in quarter-note BPM.
Takes are recorded as lossless 32-bit float WAV and held in this page’s memory. Stereo audio uses about 22 MB per minute; download anything you want to keep before leaving or refreshing the page.
Takes stay in page memory. Download them before closing or refreshing.

Why record your practice?
While you play, your attention is busy with your hands, timing, and the next note. A recording gives you a chance to hear your playing from the outside: spot uneven picking, noisy transitions, rushed sections, or a phrase that sounds different from how it felt.
Keep a few takes and compare them over time. Progress can be hard to feel from one practice day to the next, but recordings make changes in timing, confidence, and clarity easier to notice. Reviewing a take is not about judging every mistake; it helps you choose one useful thing to work on next.
How to record a take
- Connect your amp or audio interface to your computer by USB.
- Select its input, choose Connect input, and allow browser access.
- Play a few notes and check that the level meter responds without reaching red.
- Set the metronome tempo, time signature, sound, and volume. Preview it or use Tap tempo to find your pace.
- Choose no count-in, 1 bar, or 2 bars. Large numbers count each beat; recording starts on the next bar.
- Choose whether to hear the metronome during recording and whether to include it in the WAV. These options are independent.
- Optionally name the take, then choose Record.
- Choose Stop & save when finished to review or download the WAV.
- Use each take’s compact Play, Pause, and Stop buttons. Stop returns to the beginning; use the progress bar to jump to another position.
The recording stays in your browser session unless you download it. No audio is uploaded to FretWolf.
